About

Traveller’s Choice is an independent online magazine about travelling in Canada: the destinations worth the distance, the road trips, the outdoors, the cities and the practical planning that a country this size demands.

We are not a travel agency, a tour operator or a booking site. We sell no trips, book no rooms and take no commission from anyone we mention. What you read here comes from Canadians who drive, paddle, hike and ride the rails across the country, checked against park authorities, ferry schedules and official sources, and written for readers who want kilometres, seasons and honest advice rather than a brochure.

What we cover

Five sections organise the magazine. Destinations takes you to the Gaspesie, the Cabot Trail, the Bay of Fundy, Gros Morne, Haida Gwaii, the Yukon and Georgian Bay. Road Trips covers the Icefields Parkway, the Sea to Sky, Lake Superior’s north shore and the Prairies. Outdoors is canoeing, hiking, whales, northern lights, polar bears, skiing and the Bruce Trail. City Breaks visits Quebec City, Halifax and the Rideau corridor. Trip Planning deals with park passes, winter driving, packing, budgets, trains, respect for Indigenous lands and getting around without a car.

Our editorial approach

Every article is researched and written by the Traveller’s Choice desk. Fees, reservation systems, ferry schedules and road rules change, so we describe them in general terms and point you to the parks, the provinces and the carriers for the current text. Wild places carry real risk: nothing here replaces a forecast, local advice or your own judgement. We name no operators, accept nothing in exchange for coverage, and say so when something is a matter of opinion. Corrections are welcome and made quickly.
